Pediatric Heimlich Maneuver
Course Objectives, Outcomes & Course Agenda
Our Pediatric Heimlich Maneuver online Course and Certification is integral to maintaining the safety of children (0-8) entrusted to your care! A child you are with, whether for personal reasons or professionally, may choke and this may lead to dangerous sudden cardiac arrest. The airway of a child who is choking may be completely or partially blocked so that not enough oxygen reaches the lungs. Without oxygen, permanent brain damage or death can occur in as little as 4 - 6 minutes. Given that is choking is the 4th leading cause of death in young children, it is imperative that you learn to provide lifesaving abdominal thrusts to safely dislodge a foreign object, as often emergency personnel arrive too late to assist the child.
In this course, you will learn:
      • What causes choking in children
      • Signs and symptoms of choking in children
      • How to best prevent choking in children
      • When to ‘use’ the Heimlich maneuver
      • Understand why the Heimlich maneuver ‘works’
Learn to perform the Heimlich maneuver for:
      • A sitting & conscious child over one year of age
      • For a child older than one year if they are lying down & whether or not they are conscious
      • Performance of the Heimlich maneuver in an infant younger than one year old
Our pediatric Heimlich e-training curriculum and workshop is also indispensable to all parents and 'Good Samaritans' who may save a life with confidence. Our online first aid course curriculum exceeds standards provided by the American Red Cross, National Safety Council,  American Heart Association and other online courses, as its thoroughness and latest and up-to-date curriculum is constantly reviewed by board certified physicians in the field of emergency medicine, pediatrics & neonatology.
The target audience of this Heimlich maneuver for children course includes early interventionists, teachers, parents, teachers, coaches, and home health aides. Our comprehensive training will give you the confidence you'll need to take appropriate course of action should an emergency arise. In the absence of a ‘first responder,’ your knowledge of this dangerous cause of choking may save a child’s life with confidence!
