Course Objectives, Outcomes & Course Agenda
Course intent: To provide speech language pathologists with the clinical background to understand the working of the Bailey-4 testing instrument so as to implement assessment and - if eligibility proves warranted, appropriate speech therapeutic intervention as appropriate.
Relevance to speech therapy: Speech language pathologists in the early intervention setting are on the front line of treating children with receptive and expressive language delays stemming from many reasons. The Bailey-4 is one of the most important testing assessment instruments to help determine intial and continued eligibility in a timely way so as to – tap into neuroplasticity and accelerated growth and improvement with early intervention services.
Learning Outcomes: Participants completing this course will have enhanced knowledge and skills in the following areas:
Provider will be able to: Identify appropriate administration of the Bayley - 4 instrument evaluating children's fine motor & adaptive impairment(s) and qualify the examinee for clinical services
Provider will be able to: Identify use of instrument for computing and extrapolating from raw scaled, growth & composite scores, percentile rankings, confidence scores and age equivalents
Provider will be able to: Identify use of instrument for child evaluation, academic placement, eligibility, instructional planning, and treatment planning
Provider will be able to: Identify use of standardized normed instrument for children assessment, evaluation, student academic placement, Individual Educational Plans (IEP's), Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP's), instructional planning, and to determine eligibility for early intervention and pre-school, and school programs.
Provider will be able to: Identify concepts and definitions of basal, reversal, and ceiling discontinue rules, percentage delays, standard deviations, chronological age, percentile rankings, and developmental age equivalent and how they all relate together in computational formulation to determine eligibility and intervention.
Provider will be able to: Identify polytomous scoring and its benefits and how it differs from other forms of scoring.
Provider will be able to:Identify how the Bailey-4 differs from its predecessor the Bailey-III.
Provider will be able to: Identify components of the Bailey-4, such as Norm tables, its psychometric rigor, and practical features like caregiver input, enable this instrument to stand out as a gold standard for clinical utility in assessing developmental delays and supporting SLP's in early intervention by quantifying delays and progress.
Provider will be able to: Identify how to determine eligibilty in Early Intervention and Preschool Special Education
