Our online course on the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator for Children (AED) is essential to complete your knowledge as a therapist or educator working with children. Children are often victims of sudden cardiac arrest because of medical conditions which, without prompt use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED), can cause death within minutes.
When a child's heart is experiencing ventricular fibrillation, during the first 5 minutes afterwards, the heart is in a 'special' electrical phase in which the heart's muscles can be treated by an AED, and respond positively; that is to say, the life of the person can - yes - be saved. The problem is that emergency medical personnel rarely arrive during this narrow time -window of opportunity to save a person from death. The average response time for emergency medical services in a typical community is 9 minutes. It is precisely because of this, that AED's are so important, especially if bystanders do not delay and defibrillate immediately within the first four to five minutes following sudden cardiac arrest and then follow up with chest compressions until paramedics arrive. A victim's best chance for survival is when there is revival within 4 minutes.
Our unparalleled Pediatric AED-training curriculum exceeds standards provided by the American Red Cross, National Safety Council, the American Heart Association and other online courses, as our courses have been reviewed by board certified physicians in the field of emergency medicine, pediatrics and neonatology, and because they are specifically geared toward the unique needs of the itinerant and facility based early intervention and pre-school populations - whether they be child or adult.
Our certification course complies with early intervention regulatory health and safety law: General Standard 7, in which providers protect the general health and safety of children with respect to illness, injury, and emergencies, as appropriate to the setting where services are delivered while EI services are provided: "7.1 Providers have written procedures to address child illnesses, including among other criteria, responding to children with allergic reactions, and administration of first aid and CPR if certified or contacting appropriate medical personnel; The General Standard instructs providers with administration of first aid; hence, the appropriateness of documented training and certification with respect to emergency first aid for a child in cardiac arrest with our pediatric AED course prepared by board certified pediatricians, neonatologists, and emergency medicine physicians.
